DIY Natural Toothpaste and Mouthwash for a Healthier, Whiter Smile

At ZenCha Studios, we believe in harnessing the power of nature to promote health and wellness. Today, we’re sharing two recipes for a natural toothpaste and mouthwash that combine effective teeth whitening with antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. Sweetened with Swerve, these recipes are not only healthy but also taste great. Let’s explore the benefits of each ingredient and why they work so well together.

Recipe 1: Natural Toothpaste

This toothpaste is designed to gently whiten teeth, combat oral bacteria, and leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean.

Ingredients:

• 2 tbsp Baking Soda: Acts as a mild abrasive to remove stains and whiten teeth. It also neutralizes acids in the mouth, reducing the risk of cavities.

• 1 tbsp Coconut Oil: Rich in lauric acid, coconut oil is antibacterial and antimicrobial, helping to fight harmful oral bacteria.

• 1 tsp Bentonite Clay: A natural detoxifier that binds to toxins and helps remineralize teeth.

• 1/4 tsp Activated Charcoal: Absorbs impurities and helps lift stains for a brighter smile.

• 1/2 tsp Clove Powder: Contains eugenol, a powerful antiseptic and analgesic that fights bacteria and soothes gums.

• 1/2 tsp Cinnamon Powder: Offers antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, while adding a warm, pleasant flavor.

• 10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil: Freshens breath and combats oral bacteria.

• 5 Drops Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antifungal and antiseptic properties.

• 1 tsp Swerve (Erythritol): A natural sweetener that also inhibits bacterial growth.

• 1/2 tsp Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) (Optional): A mild bleaching agent for added whitening.

Instructions:

1. Mix the baking soda, bentonite clay, and activated charcoal in a small bowl.

2. Add the coconut oil, clove powder, and cinnamon powder, stirring until smooth.

3. Gradually mix in the essential oils and Swerve.

4. If desired, add hydrogen peroxide for extra whitening.

5. Store in an airtight jar at room temperature. Use a pea-sized amount for brushing.

Recipe 2: Natural Mouthwash

This mouthwash is the perfect companion to the toothpaste, targeting bad breath, oral bacteria, and fungi while whitening teeth and refreshing your mouth.

Ingredients:

• 1 cup Distilled Water: Serves as the base, free of impurities that could affect the mouthwash’s effectiveness.

• 1 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt: Rich in minerals and naturally antibacterial, it helps soothe gums and reduce inflammation.

• 1 tbsp Food-Grade Hydrogen Peroxide (3%): Combats bacteria and whitens teeth.

• 1/4 tsp Aloe Vera Juice: Known for its antifungal and soothing properties, it aids in gum health.

• 10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil: Provides a refreshing taste and fights bacteria.

• 5 Drops Clove Essential Oil: Offers strong antimicrobial and antiseptic benefits.

• 1 tsp Swerve (Erythritol): Adds a hint of sweetness while reducing bacterial growth.

Instructions:

1. Warm the distilled water slightly to dissolve the salt.

2. Stir in the Himalayan pink salt until fully dissolved.

3. Add the hydrogen peroxide and aloe vera juice.

4. Mix in the essential oils and Swerve.

5. Store in a glass bottle. Shake well before each use. Rinse your mouth with 1-2 tablespoons for 30 seconds, then spit.

Why These Ingredients Work

Baking Soda: A proven whitening agent, baking soda gently removes surface stains without damaging enamel. Its alkaline nature also helps balance the pH in your mouth, reducing bacterial growth.

Coconut Oil: Lauric acid in coconut oil effectively fights bacteria like Streptococcus mutans, a leading cause of cavities and gum disease.

Bentonite Clay: This natural clay binds to toxins and provides minerals like calcium and magnesium, which support enamel remineralization.

Activated Charcoal: Known for its high absorption capacity, activated charcoal removes impurities and deeply cleans the teeth.

Clove and Cinnamon: These spices bring potent antimicrobial and antifungal properties while promoting gum health. Clove, in particular, is excellent for reducing gum pain.

Essential Oils: Peppermint and tea tree oils provide antibacterial and antiseptic benefits, while clove oil adds extra antifungal properties. Together, they ensure a clean and fresh mouth.

Hydrogen Peroxide: When used sparingly, this mild bleaching agent whitens teeth and kills bacteria.

Swerve: A natural, zero-calorie sweetener made from erythritol, Swerve inhibits the growth of oral bacteria and helps maintain a balanced oral microbiome.
